About Me
Hi ! My name is Marika.
My friends call me Mika and I always feel like I’m living two lives with my two names. Although similar I feel a disparity between the two. I’m here to introduce myself to you with both of my names and both of my characters. I hope this portfolio shows you my professional commitment to my work as well as my personal passion.
I was born in Poland in 2004, we moved to England when I was only four years old. In 2008 I was one of a thousand immigrants all attempting to immerse themselves in a brand new country. I learnt both languages simultaneously, I often spoke ‘Ponglish’ rather than sticking to one or the other. Nevertheless, I thrived in my new environment whilst being exposed to the hardships of being an immigrant in a xenophobic part of the country. Language and culture barriers could not slow me, however, as I excelled in my education and social life. In my free time, I enjoyed the challenges of an advanced educational system, in comparison to that of Poland, I enjoyed mathematics alongside my passion for humanities. Unfortunately, I was never particular to the sciences but more practical courses including woodworking, design and technology and IT were my favourites. I have continued my love for these hobbies in my adult life, surrounded by technology I am forever interested in developing trends.
Further, my studies in A-Level Philosophy and Photography have been essential to me as a person. Being able to explore existential questions and develop my mentality led to creative inspirations and a need to create. To this day, I am still blending the line between the two disciplines, I believe a person can be reflected in that which they produce. I hope you can explore this portfolio and get to know me better.
